NFPA 266: Fire test to upholstered furniture
NFPA 266: Fire test to upholstered furniture - Standard Title:
NFPA 266 Standard Method of Test for Fire characteristics of upholstered furniture exposed to flaming ignition source
NFPA 266: Fire test to upholstered furniture - Standard Brief::
This test method, using a full-scale furniture calorimeter shall be used to determine heat release, smoke density, weight loss, and generation of carbon monoxide of upholstered furniture or full-scale mock-up of furniture.
The test procedure shall be used to determine performance of upholstered furniture exposed to a flaming ignition source. This performace data has been found to be useful in assessing the fire hazard of upholstered furniture in occupancies that are identified as or considered to be public occupancies. Such occupancies include jails, prisons, nursing care homes, health care facilities, public auditoriums, and the public gathering areas of hotels and motels.
Heat release rate is indicated by measurement of oxygen depletion, and smoke generation is determined by smoke density measurement ststems.Weight loss and carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide (CO2) evolution are continuously recorded.
NFPA 266: Fire test to upholstered furniture - Test Method:
This procedure shall provide for exposure of full-size upholstered furniture specimens or furniture mock-ups to a standard flaming ignition source in a full-scale furniture calorimeter.
The standard ignition source shall be a gas burner.
Determinations shall be made and recorded for parameters that include density of smoke, concentrations of carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide, weight loss, heat release rate, and total heat release.
